REVIEW - Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleashed (3DS)

Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleashed is a sidescrolling platform game for 3DS. The first thing I noticed, was that you can now save on multiple slots. In previous entries (Moshi Monsters: Moshling Zoo [DS] and Moshi Monsters: Moshling Theme Park [DS/3DS]) you could only save on one slot.

In this game, you play as Katsuma, an orange coloured Moshi Monster. It is your job to save your Moshi Monster friends who have been kept in cages by Dr Strangeglove.

Katsuma must fight bosses at the end of each world. These will land him with new abilities, thus making previously unreachable areas available. By the end of the game you will be able to fly, smashing 2 types of special blocks, slowing down time and a shield which will allow you to walk over spikes.

Using an unlocked ability.

Each level has enemies to defeat and Rox (the currency in the Moshi Monster Universe) to collect. When you have collected a certain amount of Rox you will unlock Web codes (to use on the official Moshi Monster site) and more Moshi Monsters for your game.

Some levels are only attainable by paying Rox to unlock them. These begin quite cheap but become more expensive in later worlds, but are still not very much considering how many Rox you'll be earning per level.
These pay to play levels are generally just reaching an exit within a certain time frame, or having to collect all the Rox in the level to complete it.

Your time will also be recorded for each level, so you can try to beat your personal best each time you play through the level.

When you defeat the final boss you will unlock hard mode. I have not tried this mode yet, personally.

You also don't have to be a fan of the series to enjoy the game. I haven't had much experience with the Moshi Monsters and I found the game charming and fun.

  1. Great review ^_^ My only problem was you didn't use all 50+ screenshots.

Now I just need an explanation of what a Moshi Monster actually is.
