The prom is only months away #39: Torchlight II

If you're looking for a kickass RPG, look no further than Torchlight II.

Torchlight II is one of my favourite RPGs on PC. There are 4 classes to select from- beserker, embermage, engineer and outlander. You can have between 1 and 4 players. There's also 4 difficulties. If you select hardcore, your character will die when you die. To not so skilled players like myself, normal seems the way to go.

Torchlight, whilst fun, was also not as vast as Torchlight II. There's a lot more to see and do in the sequel. The main game will take around 23 hours to complete on normal difficulty, but there's also after end boss stuff, too.

The combat in the game is pretty straight forward. You have some hot keys to select spells and attacks to your number keys. Health and mana potions can also be hotkeyed. The HUD is nice, out of the way, just at the bottom of your screen, very similar to World of Warcraft. I also found the map easy to understand, which is a must for me when I'm undertaking multiple quests or just navigating in general. The map will fill in as you walk, like Infinite Undiscovery.

There are a lot of skills to unlock, which will happen upon distributing skill points rewarded to you upon Level Up. (Ding!) Some skills can only be reached after hitting a certain level. Again, straight forward. You also have the option of enchanting your equipment with runes you will find. They can be removed from your equipment, also, so you can re-use them.

Torchlight II has the best loot system I've ever seen. Loot systems like the one in Borderlands are heading in the right direction, with the cash being divided equally. (But I always end up playing games with selfish jerks who don't divide the guns, and the ones you get from bosses always seem way more powerful than the vending machine shit.) Torchlight II allows you to pick up any loot on screen, as each player gets his or her own loot on their screen. In-fucking-credible.

There is also a very handy feature regarding the sale of any items you've collected. You can send your pet to town to sell the items and it will return with the profit. It only takes about 2 minutes for them to return, and saves you having to backtrack. If you do need to return to the town, however, you simply place a scroll that creates a portal so you can have instant access.

Pets can come in handy during combat, also. They can learn their own spells, just like your character. They can have their own accessories which help raise their skills. Around the world, you may notice fishing holes. If you're lucky enough to catch something (the fishing in this game is a lot better than the likes of Nier, so you shouldn't even have a problem) then you can use these fish on your pet to transform it into something else. Some of the fish transformations will have a time limit, once the time has elapsed your pet will be back to normal. Though there are permanent fish pets to be had, also.

There are a few downsides to this game, a few times I've had issues connecting to friends. And to Justin. Also, Steam games that need other accounts on top of your Steam account bug me.

Anyway. Amazing game. Would be better if I could play it with my baby.

I didn't like this game. I enjoyed playing it with the lady, but the game itself got repetitive. On paper I think it's great, but when playing it, it just seemed to have no character.
