Greatest Sounds of our Generations: Remix

So, I was thinking about how much I love when a video game series uses old classics and jazzes them up for a new generation to hear. A lot of games do this, and I always appreciate it. Unless the song sucks, then I don't appreciate it. I hate it instead. That really doesn't happen all that often, but when it does, I whip into a frenzy and am incapacitated for the rest of the day. You know what else I hate? Eggs.

So, that brings us to today's entertainment. No, it isn't porn! It's music! Remix'd music.

This may have the most amount of videos ever, so I apologize. Let's kick off this shit with...

Number 10.  Pokemon Red + Blue / Pokemon Fire Red + Leaf Green - Gym Leader Battle.

It's a complete remake, so it's easy to see why it was remade. I love pokemon, and most likely always will. This is by far the best gym theme out of all the games. Totally gets you pumped.

Number 9. Bioshock Infinite - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Is this cheating? Yes. Yes, it is. But guess what, guys! I just got done talking with Banana, and he said I can do whatever it is my little heart desires. Know what I wanted to do? It was include this lil' diddy in the countdown. Banana also said something about comments inserted into his ass. At that point I was just nodding and agreeing with him. Lil' Diddy! With Jack and Diane!

Number 8. Final Fantasy V / Final Fantasy XII - Clash On the Big Bridge.

I very recently beat Final Fantasy XII, which was the last main numbered game I had left to beat. I got to the side mission where I had to fight -INSERT SUPER MEGA SPOILERS HERE- and after a little bit of fighting, I realized that the song was remixed from Final Fantasy V. It was a really cool little Easter egg that was added into the game. I was happy, Squeeeeenix was happy, and the world was good again.

Number 7. Final Fantasy VI/ Chocobo's Dungeon (Wii) - Epitaph

Final Fantasy VI is probably my favorite of the Final Fantasy games. It was not only the first I played after I learned how to read, but it's my go to game, gurl! Luchalma and I played through it a few years ago, the first time for him, the... god, I don't know... 6th or 7th time for me? Eventually I plan on playing this with my Fiance. By the time we actually get back to playing IX, beat it, and start VI, she'll most likely be my wife. I feel so sorry for her. She has no idea what's coming. Once we're married, I plan on showing her Gorilla's fruit reviews and Banana's top 'nana. Divorce Court, here I come!

Number 6. Mother / Mother 2 / Mother 3 - Snowman

In my opinion, it's pretty rare for a game series to use the same remixed track through three games. Personally, my favorite is the NES original, but they're all great in my book. This song was also in Super Smash Brothers Brawl, but I figured 4 videos for one number was just too many. If you don't agree, Banana is getting strapped into the sling, so you'll have to be patient.

Number 5. Sonic Generations - Green Hill Zone.

I would put the original from Sonic, but the Classic is so similar, that I didn't want to accidentally break Luchalma's computer when he clicks this, what with all the videos popping up and all. Anyways, I bet that Sega had such a fun time making this game. Getting to relive Sonic's best moments and reworking the classic and original songs. It's really awesome. This is probably cheating, too, but I don't care. Banana is now strapped in and ready to go.

Number 4. Castlevania - Bloody Tears.

See. Konami knew they did it right with this song. Infact, they use it in like every Castlevania game. That and Simon's theme. They knew they struck gold and that everyone loves it. I really can't blame them for remixing it so much. It's such a good song.

Number 3. Chrono Trigger / Chrono Cross - Main Theme / Map Theme.

Chrono Cross was a bit of a let down, when you compare it to Chrono Trigger. That really didn't stop me from fully enjoying the game. The music is some of the best on the PS1, and it's a fun experience. I love that Chrono trigger music can be found throughout the game, from slight notes in the map themes, to the victory music from a battle. I have nothing more to say, so let's move on.

Number 2. Etrian Odyssey 3 / Etrian Odyssey 4 - The End of Raging Waves / Winds.

I love this series. The music and gameplay are all so good. This was probably my favorite battle music from Etrian Odyssey 3. I beat that before 4 was released, and grabbed up 4 shortly after that. I got to a mini boss and this song played, and I was so excited. I'm so happy that they chose to remix this song. While I still prefer the original, it was a very pleasant surprise to find this song lurking in my Etrian Odyssey 4.

Before I head over to number 1, I would like to add something to the another installment I had written. It was the top 10 boss musics. I forgot one, guys, and I've been sweating, tossing and turning in my sleep thinking about how I basically jipped you guys. This isn't going to be on the number list, but I'd like to make a special shout out to a fantastic track from a great game!

Lost Odyssey - Boss Battle.

There's just so much to this song that I love. It's like you can hear the entire battle play out, from the moment you're ambushed, struggling to survive the monster's relentless attacks, a moment to go through strategies to defeat the foe, and an excellent part where the group attacks the monster. It then loops back to the monster attacking. I've never really experienced a song that's like this before. The visuals are just there, and you can't deny them.

Okay, back to the action, guys!

Number 1. Jet Grind Radio / Jet Set Radio Future - Sweet Soul Brother.

There's a few reasons this is number one. First of all, it's the song I thought of to make this list for your entertainment. Also, it holds a special place in my heart, as Luchalma used to stop over to my house back in the early 00's, and he would bring over his dreamcast and we would play the hell out of this game. Later, when Xbox came out, we both had JSRF and played it all the time, too. This is my favorite song from both games, and I love each rendition.

Thank you for taking the time to roll through this list with me, guys. I had a lot of fun remembering all of these great songs and their remixes. I hope you enjoyed, and I'll see you again soon for whatever random idea pops up in my brain next!

  1. Sonic Generations had good music all around. I expected to dislike all the new stuff for nostalgic reasons.
